Somatic Awareness

Close-up of a person wearing tan and black winter boots standing on snow-covered ice.

Consider the bottom of your feet.

What’s touching them? What can you feel?

A young woman with long black hair looking down thoughtfully, outdoors with blurred foliage and flowers in the background.

Consider the roof of your mouth.

How wide is it? What shape is it?

Consider the bottom of your feet and the roof of your mouth.

Now we’re getting somewhere. Take a moment to pause.

As you simultaneously consider the bottom of your feet and the roof of your mouth, what physical sensations come up for you? Do you begin to notice the body between them—your spine, your belly, your breath? Is there a part of you asking for attention, care, or movement?

Does this expanded physical awareness stir any emotion? What is your body revealing about your emotional landscape right now?

And beyond the physical and emotional—what feels true? What quiet knowing might be waiting beneath the noise?

This is Somatic Awareness.
